Yesterday the Friends of Graves Park met with Save the Rose Garden Café group representatives, the café operator’s representative, a councillor and council officers, to start the process of working together on the restoration and refurbishment of the Rose Garden Café.

During the meeting the key partners thrashed out the issues on which to work. All parties, by the end of the meeting, had a better understanding of the work required and the timescales to meet.

We will be meeting regularly in future to progress the restoration of the café and all involved agreed that we want this work to proceed at a pace.

In the meantime, we will be continuing to explore funding and support options.

The group will be appointing a chair and also agreed memorandum of understanding for the partnership.

At the meeting, the Friends were keen to stress the need to urgently identify the cause of the lean on the front wall, so that work can progress. Relevant council officers have agreed to meet with engineers and surveyors as a matter of urgency to address this and get things moving, which should be in the next couple of weeks.

So, a positive meeting with a hopeful future for the café!
